A Witch, A Cupcake, and a Gaggle of Co-workers Walk Into A Film...
Updated: Aug 26, 2018
Welcome to the Life’s A Bitch And Then One Kills You Production Blog!
Our film is firmly rooted in the comedy horror genre in the spirit of all the films that I’ve loved for so many years. Films like Shaun of the Dead, Zombieland, Cabin in the Woods, Tremors, Evil Dead, Hell Baby, Tucker and Dale Versus Evil, What We Do in the Shadows, Ghostbusters, and the penultimate horror comedy, Young Frankenstein, have given me so many wonderful laughs, scares, and gross out moments throughout my life.
I believe this genre is the most fun you can have at the movies.
That is our hope and intent with Life’s A Bitch And Then One Kills You (LABATOKY). I get no greater joy than helping people escape, giving them a laugh, and surprising them with the joy that many find in a little jolt of edge of your seat terror. That’s our brand. That’s our mission.
We’ve got a great script, and an even better, incredibly talented cast. I’m excited for you to meet them. They are all wonderful people. They are all committed to knocking this thing out of the park. We feel truly blessed to be working with each of them.
Our team at Milepost 42 Films is equally committed and already climbing the seemingly impossible mountain that is producing a feature film. Pre-production is almost complete. We still have a few key roles to fill in terms of crew. The location is set. Next up is a table read with the cast.
Shooting starts on Saturday, September 1st, 2018. As we are a micro budget feature, we are going to shoot over the course of nine consecutive Saturdays. We did this intentionally. First, we thought it would be easier on many of our actors and crew to work that kind of a shooting schedule around day jobs. Second, as a production company, we are graduating from shooting short films to this, our first feature film. We plan on taking baby steps in terms of growth, budget, and scope with each feature we produce. Shooting one day a week gives us a chance to analyze what worked, fix what didn’t, and improve with each day of shooting. We are intentionally saving the most ambitious days for the final days of shooting for this very reason.
Also, for our first feature, we’ve intentionally kept locations to a minimum and kept the cast small. There are only seven roles in the entire film and one location, a private residence. This has served films like The Invitation and Coherence very well, and both of these real time films are very much the same in look and pace as to what we are trying to accomplish with our film.
